I think the second week of NaNoWriMo, whether it’s the November event or one of the Camps, is always the hardest. The shiny ne wfeeling sof week one is gone, you’re not over the halfway mark yet, and the rest of the month stretches before you in a cavernous yawn.
I get it. I always feel this way when it comes to Camp NaNo, but like I mentioned last week, I am on a mission to hit at least 80k this month (mind you I started with 40k).
Evaluating Goals
I am probably not the best at setting writing goals. I have a hard time saying no, and that extends to goals I set for myself. This week, my main goal was to finish a light revision on Act 1 (about eight chapters) based on feedback from my CP (Critique Partner), and write the new Midpoint in Act 2 (about 6,000 words). I hit both of those goals, but still I want more.
I really wanted to finish revising the second half of Act 2, but there were still eight chapters left after the new Midpoint I wrote, and two of those chapters needed to be written from scratch. I did manage to revise two more chapters, but I stalled out at the next two to be written.
Moving to Week 3
Overall, I’m very happy with my progress this last week. Despite not hitting my totally unrealistic goal, I did finish what I set out to, so that’s a win in my book. I’m going to be chugging along quickly this week. I will wrap up those two new chapters, revise the remaining four in Act 2 and that will leave me ready to dive into Act 3.
Act 3 has ten chapters. I’ve written five and I need to write five. While I’m hoping to knock those out this week, I don’t know that I’ll hit it. And that’s okay! I’m going to get as close as I can to the finish line to set myself up for the last full week of CampNaNo.
If you haven’t tried NaNoWriMo, I really encourage you to give it a go. It’s a ton of fun, and, if nothing else, it can be a great challenge. Come back next week for my Week 3 recap!
